The Lady with the Dog

I’m not entirely sure what the fence symbolizes but I think it could symbolize her husband in the story. A fence keeps you out of somewhere you are not supposed to be and is a barrio and I think in the same way so is her husband. He is a barrio to his wife so this man cannot come see her. I think this story does stem from people watching. I know at least in the airport or mall I see all different people and try to come up with stories to fit them. I think Chekhov did the same thing. He might not have seen these people interacting multiple times, but I think the story stems from him watching a lady with her dog somewhere.
